Wicked began as a 1995 novel
by Gregory Maguire, reimagining
L. Frank Baum's The Wizard of Oz
from the perspective of the “Wicked
Witch of the West”, Elphaba.
In 2003, the novel was adapted into
a hit Broadway musical by Stephen
Schwartz.
In 2024, a movie adaptation brought
the story to a wider audience,
cementing its status in popular
culture as a tale about the meaning
of “good” and “evil”.
