You may know the 2018 movie Green Book, which tells the story of a Black pianist traveling through the segregated South with his driver. In reality, The Green Book was a travel guide used by Black Americans across the country during the Jim Crow era, listing safe places to eat, sleep, and refuel. The two are connected: the movie gives a personal perspective on the difficulties and dangers faced by African American travelers at the time.
