The New Union Flag, Gil Mualem-Doron, 2014.

Gil Mualem-Doron's show at Jubilee Library on Jubilee Street would have featured his work New Union Flag, which celebrates diversity and was created in collaboration with Stand Up to Racism.
It's created around the traditional crosses of St George, St Andrew and St Patrick, but it's also a patchwork of textiles representing dozens of other countries and cultures.
But Brighton and Hove City Council say libraries need to remain "neutral spaces and a safe space for all customers."
Speaking to ITV Meridian, Gil Mualem-Doron said: "I'm really baffled by their decision [to cancel the exhibition]."
"I see it as a project of healing, you know, division between communities, rather than divide anybody."
"It celebrates diversity from some of the old immigrant communities, as I said, the Anglos, and the Saxons, up to our days, you know."
"This is a celebration of diversity and the true colour of this nation."
Mualem-Doron said he created the flag to "show the roots of the people."
"I decided to use the Union Jack, which is the emblem of this country," he said. "Instead of the colour, I started to insert textile designs of various communities."
"When the flag started to go to more exhibitions, there was a whole series of workshops related to these projects and demonstrations [...]."
"Slowly, slowly, they started to contribute more and more to this flag, and this is the latest version of it."
The artwork has received enthusiastic reviews at the Tate Modern and the Turner Contemporary in Margate.
