Culture note

The Queen's Coronation, broadcast live on 2 June 1953 by the BBC, marked the first time the television audience outnumbered the radio audience. Despite the fact that few households owned a television set at the time and that many areas in Britain couldn't even receive a TV signal, over half of British adults tuned in to watch the Coronation.
