Positive Post-it Day held to encourage Airdrie teen's anti-bullying campaign

9 October 2014 - CBC News
Community rallies behind Caitlin Prater-Haacke after she’s penalized for uplifting posts at school.
A southern Alberta city got a little brighter today after hundreds of neon Post-it notes with inspiring hand-written messages started popping up at homes, shops and offices in Airdrie. [...]. The movement was started by a local high school student trying to fight off a bully. Caitlin Prater-Haacke had been sent a message on Facebook telling her to kill herself. “I read the post and honestly I felt like throwing up,” said the teen’s mother Nicole Haacke. “The words that were used, they’re not words I use in my own house.” Instead of replying to the message, Prater-Haacke took out a marker andsome small pads of paper. She decided to fight back by posting positive messages on every locker in her school. “Little simple messages like, ‘You’re beautiful’ [and] ‘You shine bright like a diamond,’” she said.

I Am

I am the person you bullied at school,

I am the person who didn’t know how to be cool,
I am the person you alienated,
I am the person you ridiculed and hated.
I am the person who sat on her own,
I am the person who walked home alone,
I am the person you scared every day,
I am the person who had nothing to say.
I am the person with hurt in her eyes,
I am the person you never saw cry,
I am the person living alone with her fears,
I am the person destroyed by her peers.
I am the person who drowned in your scorn,
I am the person who wished she hadn’t been born,
I am the person you destroyed for ‘fun’,
I am the person, but not the only one.
I am the person whose name you don’t know,
I am the person who just can’t let go,
I am the person who has feelings too,

And I was a person, just like you.

Had better

Observe: You’d better not accept that or you’ll regret it later! She had better tell someone.

Think: When do we use had better? Spot the contracted form.

Practise: What does Liam think? “Liam thinks Harriet had better…”

You’d better not accept that!
You’d better refuse!
